About the Team of Dreams
Why the proposal to switch the current model?
Why the proposal to switch the current model?
Why introduce a new system?
In 1989, through the leadership of President Borislav Stanković, FIBA approved the rule that allowed NBA players to compete in international tournaments, including the Olympics. In the next Olympics in 1992, the “Dream Team” won the gold medal with an average winning margin of 44 points, and without calling a time out.
The United States has continued to dominate on the Olympic stage. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, they finished the tournament with a perfect 8–0 record, defeating opponents by an average of 32 points while trailing in the fourth quarter only once. Also in 2012, while in a preliminary round, the US set a single-game record with 156 points scored against Nigeria. What more do we have to prove? It’s time that we allow some fresh new talent and offer some unknown hopefuls the chance to take center stage and compete for Olympic gold. For now, we will start with testing this model to show that across our nation there are some truly gifted basketball talents eager to earn a second chance.
USA, the land of opportunities…
America today is facing crises on what seem to be an endless number of fronts. Racial, political, and economic divisions are tearing at the social fabric of our nation. Many people are struggling to find jobs, and more and more are giving up hope of ever getting ahead or of giving their children a better life than they had.
For too many people, the American dream now seems like a fairy tale. We need hope. We desperately need unity.
We are proposing an opportunity and developing a project that we believe can show all Americans that the characteristics that made this country the greatest nation in the history of the world are still alive and well. America loves to root for Team USA. We love it even more when we are an underdog. After all, America was born an underdog. This will be a new brand of Team USA. Grassroots. From the ground up! They will inspire us all.
